SSBs are linked to harmful effects on health. Filled with sugar and entirely lacking in nutritional value, these products contribute to increased caloric intake and obesity, a risk factor for many cardiovascular diseases and such chronic illnesses as type 2 diabetes.
An effective media advocacy campaign could translate into increased public support for this policy, providing policymakers with the required backing to achieve the goal of passing a tax on soft drinks. Taxing soft drinks has been proven to reduce their consumption and inspire healthier alternatives.
NASR is running an advocacy campaign for the SSB tax called “Reduce Sugar”. Through this campaign, the NASR aims to raise stakeholder and public buy-in for a tax on soft drinks.
